The CAD-to-JBeam pipeline

Implementation snapshot · 2026-10-12 · Sources & update notes

The pipeline preserves the distinction between source observations, numerical representations and measured simulation results.

CADGraphPackageEvidence

Save ownership, materials and native references. The source snapshot records what actually came from the assembly.

Output: geometry.json · material-snapshot.json

Select a stage. This diagram explains the workflow; the small graph is schematic, not measured telemetry. An appearance revision reuses the existing physical package instead of recalibrating its graph.
Saved SolidWorks assembly
↓ selections + materials + native references
Preparation / project companions
↓ fresh export, ownership and input checks
Geometry snapshot + reviewed joint/mount definition
↓ hull generation + fixture approval
Calibrated frame + component/mechanism graphs
↓ assembly, numerical conditioning and provenance checks
Vehicle package + manifest
↓ independent native recordings
Verification receipts → reviewed installation

Each arrow produces artifacts; it is not just an in-memory UI state. Files and receipts explains what to keep.

The C# add-in captures native geometry and persistent identities on the SolidWorks thread. Assembly configuration and instance placement matter: two uses of the same part are different owners, even when they share a source file.

External workers receive exported snapshots, not arbitrary access to your current CAD selection. Changing CAD after preparation requires a new capture.

The frame uses a wrapped shell graph with structural supports and reviewed fixtures. An independent tubular-member reference supplies calibration targets. Panels, compact solids and mechanisms use different representations; a triangle mesh alone cannot determine which physical model is appropriate.

Mass observations, material properties, joint freedoms and hardpoints remain explicit inputs. Numerical conditioning controls discrete stiffness/damping relative to the available mass and timestep. It does not manufacture missing hardware data.

The package records hashes of source geometry, material inputs, templates, calibration and runtime code. Physics regeneration makes a new physical model. Appearance packaging changes mesh bindings while requiring an unchanged physical snapshot.

Verification checks the actual compiled native vehicle as well as the exported files. A complete recording can still fail measurement criteria. Installation copies a reviewed package; it does not itself run acceptance.
